The Ghanaian Interviews Memoirs Of A Ghanaian Interviewer Sunday, 5 February 2012TV3 Never Gave Me A Crown-GMB Lamisi Awinongya Miss Lamisi after pulling 36.33 percent of total votes became the first runner up of the 2009 Ghana's Most Beautiful pageant but events twisted and she was announced the new crown holder by the event organizers TV3 Network...A year and half down the line I caught up with her to know what new challenges the crown brought and how far has she gone with her chosen social duty.... Who is Miss Lamisi? My name is Magdalene Lamisi Sam Awinongya but my showbiz name is just Lamisi which means a Thursday born.I am simple but very energetic and knows what I want and will go all out for it.I love positive competition and that's evident in the number of beauty pageants I have partook in.Talking about Mister and Misses SHS in 2007 and others which are not well known until the 2009 Ghana Most Beautiful. What convinced you to join Ghana's Most Beautiful? I am the kind of girl who loves the culture stuff and that can be seen in my outfits any time I step out with a touch of African prints in my dressing.I also think Mac Tontoh of blessed memory was on the judges bench in 2007 when I partook in the Mister and Misses SHS and he told me "you have something within you,go for it" I kept that.So in 2008 when I saw the promo of Ghana's Most Beautiful I told my friends I was going for the crown.I think I am happy now but more importantly I wanted a platform that could help me promote my Road Accidents Campaign because I had been involved in about three accidents in the past and I think my campaign is going good too. What difficulties did you face during your season? It was not all fun,I respect all the pageants in Ghana but GMB was different because I thought everything will be cozy until I met up with other girls, staying in a house with nine other ladies you have never met before. Its difficult to live with even your own sisters, how much more other nine ladies plus the act we put up on stage where things we had to dig within our self and bring out.All you are told is the issue to tackle and you find you way and means and learn it and bringing it very real on the stage. Rumors has is that you are dating a Boxer,Osumanu Adama? [Laughing] That's quiet personal but I am not dating Kesse of Project Fame, not D flex of Nasake fame and I am not also dating Reggie Zippy as some people are saying but I am not single.I am seriously attached but I can not tell you whether its the IBO world champion Osumanu Adamu or not. [Laughing] Money or Fame, which will you go for? I wish to be the voice of the voiceless,I can have fame but cant a afford to support people in need with the basic things they need, but if I have money and I push it into good project to help the society people would recognize my efforts and that can make me famous too.I will go for a lot of money. People are famous but complain people don't buy their music and they run into financial crisis so why not.I will go for the money. You featured in Tarch Haus' Dagbana, how was the experience like? I use to love Drama back in school and I was Drama President in high school at Christian Methodist School and we participated in a lot of competition where we mostly came first. That I must confess really helped me a lot on the Ghana Most Beautiful stage because it made my delivery on stage very smooth and many were suggesting I start acting.I just wanted to concentrate on my social pledges so when Tarch Haus called me and told me the film was to promote peace in the North,I didn't hesitate because after all,I always wanted an opportunity like that to contribute my quota back to my people. What new Challenge did the crown bring when TV3 handed Nasara's crown to you later on after she was alleged to have misconducted herself in the Philippines? I will be very glad if you direct this question to TV3.I know myself to be Ghana Most Beautiful 2009 first runner up.I normally don't know what to say when people ask me about that crown. No handling over ceremony have been held as far I am concerned so I still stand by the fact that I am a first runner up and not a winner because no one has handed any crown to me.What's important to me is the brand Lamisi I have created and I will not sleep with someone or pay money to get a crown.I wanted a platform to give hope to northern women and I got it.I still stand by the fact that I am first runner up. Which part of your life would you like to improve upon? Everything is okay but my prayer is just that people who will like to pull me back to stay off my course. Those people who will work more than Satan just to see you go down God should take them away from my track. Whats you most precious possession? I am proud of an award I received from the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly on the Independence day after Ghana Most Beautiful 2009 and that was the for representing the Ashaiman Municipality and this portrait my mom gave to me after I returned home.It was great. Whats project are you embarking on now? I am now working on road accident documentary and how to air it is now the issue because I want it to be on several networks as possible and also my TV show will be hitting the screens very soon. People argue that contestants warm beds to go far in contests, whats your opinion on that? No one has tried it on me but if people are confessing after they feel cheated,I don't mind but as Phillipa Baafi once said in an interview "Its God who has brought me where I am today, but if there's any man somewhere who thinks other wise,he should come out boldly and say I had a thing or two with Phillipa before I did her this favor".If you buy fame or sleep with people for fame,it wont last.I don't blame the judges who sleep with the contestants,I blame the contestants themselves for stooping so low.If you are confident of your output why would you then have to sleep to get a crown..huh?... Is there any question you always wanted to be asked? Yes its,What my take on the media?I think you guys never support social effort of people in the limelight but as soon as a controversy breaks you guys are the first to report those issues. You last words? I love my fans and I appreciate their prayers, support and motivation.I love them all...

PROGRAMME FOR ASHAIMAN WATCH COMMITTEES (OCT 2, PAGE 29) THE Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive, Numo Adinortey Addison, has announced that the municipal security committee is drawing up a programme to resource watchdog committees within the various electoral areas to improve security in the municipality. The chief executive identified inadequate security, poor sanitary practices, as well as persistent fire outbreaks as major problems impeding development in the municipality. He was addressing a forum organised by the Church of Christ Rural Water Development Project in partnership with the Ashaiman Traditional Council and Excellence Youth Development Centre, an Ashaiman-based non-governmental organisation (NGO). He called on residents to collaborate with the assembly to ensure that the newly constituted Unit Committees in the municipality performed effectively. The Co-ordinator of the Community Water and Sanitation Project, Ms Theodora Adomakomah-Adjei, expressed concern about the attitude of Ghanaians to sanitation and said that attitude was gradually becoming a norm in the country. “It is surprising most people do not see anything wrong with indiscriminate littering of the environment and do not appreciate the need to practise simple hygiene, such as washing of hands with soap before meals,” Ms Adjei remarked. The Municipal Fire Officer, Mr Victor Dzidzeme-Gawuga, took participants through fire prevention methods and urged residents to adhere to fire safety instructions to reduce the incidence of fire outbreaks, which is predominant in the community. Ms Magdalene Lamisi Sam Awinongya, a runner-up in TV3’s Ghana’s Most Beautiful reality show, who is a resident of the municipality, appealed to the municipal assembly to consider establishing recreational facilities and youth centred-programmes which would divert the attention of the youth from engaging in anti-social vices. She advised the youth to expend their energies on development programmes and create a positive image about Ashaiman, which is perceived to be a town noted for criminal activities. Participants at the forum expressed regret at the slow pace of infrastructural development in the municipality and appealed to the assembly to take realistic measures to develop the area. They also expressed disappointment at health care delivery in the community and appealed to stakeholders to collaborate with development agencies to meet the health needs of the people.
